Modernization, flood risk, and hydropower are topics of discussion.
The U.S. State Department announced that a delegation from the United State met with Canadian government officials last week for the 13th round of negotiations on the Columbia River Treaty. The two-day meeting, held in Richmond, British Columbia, continues discussions that began in December 2021 to regarding “modernized framework that incorporates flood risk management, hydropower coordination, ecosystem cooperation, and increased Canadian operational flexibility.“
State Department spokesman Ned Price stated, “The United States is committed to working with Canada to achieve a modernized treaty regime that will support a healthy and prosperous Columbia River Basin and reflect our country’s commitment to the people who depend upon the Columbia River.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for the U.S. delegation as they work with Canadian officials regarding the Columbia River Basin.
- For wisdom for the president’s administration in negotiating updates to the treaty.
- For both nations to benefit from the outcome of the negotiations.
