The U.S. State Department announced that a delegation from the United State met with Canadian government officials last week for the 13th round of negotiations on the Columbia River Treaty. The two-day meeting, held in Richmond, British Columbia, continues discussions that began in December 2021 to regarding “modernized framework that incorporates flood risk management, hydropower coordination, ecosystem cooperation, and increased Canadian operational flexibility.“
State Department spokesman Ned Price stated, “The United States is committed to working with Canada to achieve a modernized treaty regime that will support a healthy and prosperous Columbia River Basin and reflect our country’s commitment to the people who depend upon the Columbia River.“
